As a registered tiney childminder you have a legal duty to register with the ICO (Information Commissioners Office) as a data controller. It is a really quick and easy process and i've created a video to walk you through how to do it below.

What is ICO registration?

This will be an annual subscription to pay and you will be responsible for renewing it each year. The ICO will send you reminders via email.

For childminders the fee will be £40 per year or £35 per year if you choose to pay by direct debit.

How to register

It should take about 10 minutes to complete the registration form and make payment.

You need to fill the form in one go (so you cannot stop and start it again), so make sure you have everything you need to complete it before you start.

You will need:

  • your credit/debit card, you can do a one off payment or pay by direct debit

  • All the details about your tiney home nursery (your business name, address etc)

Remember you are filling this form in for your business as a childminder only.

This will take you straight to the form you need to fill in

I've created a video that walks you through exactly how to fill in the form - just click below to watch it.

It is worth noting that the ICO do publish all the information you provide on their website. For more information, you can view their privacy notice.

Remember this is an annual subscription so don't forget to renew it! We will check that you are signed up with the ICO as part of your annual inspection. An easy way to help with this is to pay by direct debit if you can (it is also £5 cheaper).
