Verifying your DBS certificates

This article explains the two routes tiney will take to verify your DBS certificates before registration. It applies to all childminders who have not registered.

Written by Hannah Dunham

tiney must see physical copies of DBS certificates for all Childminders, Adult Household Members and Adults listed as regular visitors prior to registration.

For the vast majority of trainee childminders this will happen at your Registration Assessment Visit. Please ensure you have the original copy of each DBS certificate so the consultant can examine them.

If your, or any of your household member's DBS certificates are not back in time for your visit, you will need to post them to our offices for a physical check. tiney will email you a Royal Mail 24 tracked, signed for postage label.

Once your DBS certificates have arrived (after your Visit), please follow these steps:

  • Step 1 - Upload photographs of the front and back of your certificate into the app

  • Step 2 - Register for the Update service

  • Step 3 - Print off the pre-paid label tiney will send you, or take the QR code to a post office or Royal Mail parcel drop off to print the label there

  • Step 4 - Post your certificates

  • Step 5 - tiney will verify them

  • Step 6 - tiney will post them back to you Royal Mail 24 tracked

If the DBS is the last thing you are waiting for for registration, we will be able to register you after Step 5.

All childminders must have the DBS certificate back in their possession before welcoming children.

If you add a household member at a later date, or employ an assistant, you as the registered childminder must see the original physical DBS certificate in person (not a copy or photo) and check its security features to confirm it is genuine:

  • printing on both sides

  • the oversized paper (209mm x 404mm)

  • the crown seal watermark visible in the light
