About the Theory Call

The aim of your theory call is to access your knowledge of the 'EYFS Statutory Framework', and to check that you have a full understanding of the requirements for childminders. You can view the document here. The EYFS Statutory Framework will be a really important document for you to be understand and be familiar with when you are registered as a childminder.

Make sure you have taken a thorough look at the EYFS, and have revised any sections that you are not fully secure on.

Preparing for the Call

  • If you haven't already attended/viewed the 'Preparing for your theory call and visit' webinar, then, as a first step ,we would recommend attending this to get the most out of it and ask any questions. You can book your place on the Events section of the app. If you can't attend, we have a recording you can watch here.

  • Go back to the Training section of your app, and reflect on any areas of the training where you believe your knowledge could be strengthened. Put together your own training plan, also taking into account any feedback you have been given throughout your journey with tiney. It is really vital that you lead your own learning to ensure that you are fully prepared. If you noticed that you scored less than 100% in any of the core unit quizzes, we would strongly encourage you to revisit these areas of the training ahead of your theory call.

  • Pay particular attention to the training sections on:

    • EYFS (Safeguarding and Welfare requirements)

    • Safeguarding and Child Protection (please ensure you have attended our Safeguarding Scenarios webinar)

    • EYFS (Learning and Development requirements)

    • Settling In

    • 2 Year Progress Check (video here)

  • You may find our EYFS webinar series useful. You can find this in our recordings section here

  • Development Matters (the government non-statutory guidance, on how to deliver and meet the EYFS statutory requirements) can be a useful guide to consider how you will meet the EYFS requirements in your setting

  • We would also suggest reviewing your policies, and consider how you will apply these in your setting

  • Have a look at our practice case studies here

The call will be held via Google Meet, you should have received a link in your confirmation email - please be ready to join at the time of your call, we will expect you to join with your video on. Please bring a piece of photo ID to the call.

You will need to have written and know all of your policies before the call as you will be asked questions about all of them (not just the ones you need to send to tiney in advance).

The call will last 1.5 hours long, ensure you put the full time aside and come to the call distraction-free.
