Parents who are in full-time higher education may be eligible for a Childcare Grant that can be used to pay partially for their childcare. Depending on eligibility, you can get 85% of your weekly childcare costs or a fixed maximum amount, whichever is less:

2023 to 2024 academic year

  • up to £188.90 a week for 1 child

  • up to £323.85 a week for 2 or more children

2024 to 2025 academic year

  • up to £193,62 a week for 1 child

  • up to £331.95 a week for 2 or more children

In order to claim this, you will need to link your children to your childcare provider in your Student Finance account, using a CCG Reference Number that will be provided by tiney.

Once your placement has started, tiney will request a payment for the full amount of your weekly cost of care, the week after the care took place.

E.g. for 5 days of care from 01/05/23 to 04/05/23 at £50 a day, we will request £250 through Student Finance on 08/05/23.

You can then approve this through your Student Finance account, which will show you the amount they will pay of the week's fees, and the amount left for you to pay after the contribution has been deducted.

  • E.g. 1 - If your cost of care is £100 per week, tiney will request £100 through Student Finance. Once you approve the request, £85.00 will be released to tiney.

  • Eg. 2 - If your cost of care is £250 per week, tiney will request £250 through Student Finance. Once you approve the request, £183.75 will be released to tiney (in the 22/23 academic year).

Remaining Cost of Care

tiney will charge the remaining 15% or cost over the cap paid by Student Finance by credit or debit card.

  • E.g. 1 - Weekly cost of care is £100 - £85 is paid by Student Finance. £15 will be invoiced to the parent.

  • E.g. 2 - Weekly cost of care is £250 - the maximum £183.75 is paid by Student Finance in 22/23. £66.25 will be invoiced to the parent.

We will charge the parents portion of the cost for the first 2 weeks of the placement upfront. The remaining fees over Student Finance for subsequent weeks will be charged in arrears, in line with the payments released from Student Finance.
