As a newly registered childminder, you'll need to be proactive to get yourself noticed. Here are some marketing must-do's to help you build your brand and find families.

🌟 Harness your super power

Remind yourself what makes you special and reflect on the unique highlights that you have added/are currently adding to your tiney profile.

🌏 Get yourself on social media

Set up accounts on social media and child related platforms where parents are already having conversations. Here are the top spots:

  • Set up a Facebook business page (see how-to tips here)

  • Set up a Google My Business page (see how-to tips here)

  • Create a Childcare.co.uk profile (see why here)

  • Create a profile on searchchildcare.org.uk

  • Create an Instagram account (see how-to tips here)

  • Create an account on NextDoor.com

  • Get listed on your Local Authority's childcare portal

Once set-up, search for local adverts for childcare on the sites and send them a message with your offer and contact details to chat further.

🗣 Inform your local area

  • Estate agents - It's part of an estate agents job to sell an area to potential buyers or renters, so leave them your details and they can pass them on to any new families moving in nearby.

  • Schools - Contact schools in your local area and offer after-school care or hold a stall at school fairs so parents can meet you. If you're a parent yourself, tell parents at the school pick-up too!

  • NCT groups and Toddler & Baby groups - What better place to find potential parents looking for childcare? Go and introduce yourself!

  • Anywhere locally to parents - local community and children's centres, sports centres, supermarkets, libraries, family-friendly cafés, GP surgeries or even through the doors of the houses in your neighbourhood!

💪 Practice and persevere

Setting up a business takes lots of plate spinning! Marketing requires good input to get good output, so try setting aside some time each day or week and putting it in the diary - could you set yourself a goal of 30 minutes marketing everyday?

Let's get your name out there!
